Call for proposals for EduBrains – a training program on future e-technologies for brain health research and innovation

We are pleased to announce the launch of a call for proposals for EduBrains — a training series on future e-technologies for brain health research and innovation funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) .

Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH together with EBRAINS Germany invites you to join the selected group of early career researchers who will gain  access to this specialized, interdisciplinary training and education program.

EduBrains focuses on two main aspects of your career development: 1) with EduBrains you will become a highly qualified, interdisciplinary early-career researcher at the interface of STEM and medicine with strong focus on information technology, data science and artificial intelligence. You  will get to know and become a power user of the European digital research infrastructure EBRAINS. You will learn new techniques and acquire new skills to address scientific and clinical questions in brain health research using state-of-the-art methods and FAIR data. The training program will familiarize you with the necessary theoretical, technical and applied concepts required to create innovative research plans, develop new technologies and translate them into clinical solutions. In addition, the program includes training on ethics, dual use, data protection and FAIR Open Science. 2) “EduBrains” offers you a unique opportunity to network with national and international initiatives and institutions as well as renowned scientists. In addition, you will get to know how interdisciplinary collaboration drives scientific progress from basic research to medical and technical applications for the benefit of society.

The series of events comprises a total of seven modules over a period of 24 months, which are planned as on-site and online events. The on-site events will take place at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH and the European Institute for Neuromorphic Computing in Heidelberg, Germany. For attending the on-site events accommodations will be organized centrally. Travel expenses (travel, accommodation and catering) will be paid by the organizer.

Do you want to become part of EduBrains?

In order to apply, you must be currently pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in a university in the European Union. The program runs for 24 months, so you should preferably be in the early stages of your master's degree or doctoral thesis to be able to run the complete training series. This must be clearly supported in your application.

You should have a STEM or medicine background. Related fields may also be considered if well justified. Basic programming skills in Python are mandatory. Background in physics, mechatronics, robotics, computer science, machine learning or data science are a plus.

Application Process

Send us an application letter in English explaining your motivation for participating in the training series and let us know why you want to specialize in e-health. Please include two letters of recommendation and send your documents until 04.09.2025 to edubrains@fz-juelich.de. Please use the following template for your application https://fz-juelich.sciebo.de/s/Scnz0b4FxI5OFM1. A committee consisting of experts in the related fields will select a total of 40 participants for the EduBrains training program. The results of the selection process will be communicated to the applicants by the end of September 2025.

We strive for a balanced gender ratio and welcome applications from people from diverse backgrounds (e.g., regardless of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation/identity, and social, ethnic, and religious background).
